What do I do if…
A tooth is knocked out?
I have a dental emergency and the office is closed?
I lost a crown?
Call us at 541-388-1434 and we’ll get you in as soon as possible. If you found your crown, bring it to your appointment and we’ll see if we can save it or if it needs to be replaced.
While you are waiting for your appointment make sure to keep the area clean. Gently brush around and inside the area to make sure to remove food debris. As an extra precaution you can rinse with warm salt water.
If you are experiencing pain from the missing crown you can try using clove oil (found at most drug stores) to help numb the pain. To apply dip a cotton swab or cotton ball into the clove oil and wipe it on your gums and where you are experiencing discomfort. Clove oil has a warm, spicy taste.
Another option for pain is over-the-counter pain medication like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen and naproxen.
My tooth is cracked or fractured?
If you have a minor chip or cracked tooth you don’t have to rush medical attention but you do need to be careful eating foods that are hard to bite or chew. You may be more sensitive to extreme temperatures so watch out for ice cream and hot coffee.
If you have a broken tooth call our office immediately at 541-388-1434. We will get you an appointment as soon as possible but in the meantime:
- Rinse your mouth with warm water or salt water
- Apply a cold compress on your cheek nearest the broken tooth
- If the area is bleeding apply gauze to soak up the blood. The bleeding should subside after 10 minutes.
- To help with discomfort use over-the-counter pain medication like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen and naproxen.
I have a toothache?
A toothache or tooth trauma can be extremely painful. Call our office at 541-388-1434 and we will get you an appointment as soon as possible.
To help with your pain before your appointment:
- Use over-the-counter pain medication like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen and naproxen.
- Put an ice pack on your cheek nearest to the effected area.
